Laura Lyn DiSiena is an artist, designer and occasional author who loves to make all sorts of pretty (sometimes edible) things.
From drawing letterforms & baking cookies (recipe optional) to knitting & crochet, all forms of making were of interest to Laura as a child. Moving on to acrylic paints & life-sized canvas, she sold her first commissioned abstract painting at age 16.
Subsequent artistic endeavors include bookbinding & letterpress printing, sewing, collage, pottery & papier-mache, and much, much (much) more.
A foray into making paper flower bouquets started with her wedding in 2013 and landed her as author & maker for a flower art kit published by Parragon Books.
As an Etsy shop owner, Laura sold chunky knitted scarves, hand-lettered & letterpress printed notecards, custom paper flowers and illustrated invitations (the former in collaboration with her husband, Elan Harris).
Following her love of word & image, Laura has had a long career in children's publishing, designing and art directing picture books, chapter books and middle grade novels. She's also creator and author of a non-fiction picture book series published by Little Simon (Simon & Schuster).
Raised in Queens and seasoned in Brooklyn, Laura now calls Maplewood, NJ home. She lives with her artsy husband and two bright & shiny children, all of whom provide endless opportunities to make LOTS of things: play-dough, clothespin fairies and pinatas, to name a few!
